You’ve got Q’s, we’ve got A’s.

What the hell does Thew even mean?

The word "thew" (rhymes with "you", not "blue") is a Middle English word for strength and vitality. Originally suggested in jest, we quickly realized that the word perfectly described us: a company dedicated to infusing strength and vitality into our community. With consistent involvement with local businesses, charities, non-profits, and outreach programs, we aim to make everywhere we visit a little better than we found it.

Where can I park?

Parking is available in the private lot behind our building and in the city-owned lot behind our lot (under I-380). Ample street parking is also available on 2nd Avenue SW.

Are bicycle racks available?

Yes! We're still working on where it will live long term, but we do have a rack to keep you bike locked up safe.

Is your taproom handicap accessible?

Yes! Our taproom and restrooms are handicap accessible, and there is designated handicap parking in our lot.

Is my pet allowed in your taproom?

Sorry - while we love animals of all shapes and sizes, Iowa law says no.

Are minors welcome?

Minor guests are welcome, if accompanied by an adult, until 7:00 p.m. Cedar Rapids city code dictates that no minors may be in our establishment after that time. When bringing in your children, please remember that our taproom provides nearly exclusively beer and then decide if the setting is appropriate.

When I arrive, how will I get my beer?

Our bartenders will serve you at the bar. If you don’t want to belly up, come up to the bar to get your beer, open your tab, and then seat yourself at one of our many tables or in our lounge seating area.

Do you serve food?

Our focus is on perfecting our beers, so we do not serve food. However, outside food is welcome and we regularly have awesome food trucks and vendors on site.

Will I be able to watch the big game in your taproom?

We have three TVs for everyday use along with a large screen and projector for special events (game watches, etc.)

What methods of payment do you accept?

We accept cash and all major credit cards. An ATM is available on-site.

Can I tour the brewery?

We do not currently offer tours of our brewery, but watch our events page as tours will pop up from time to time.

Will you host my private event?

Definitely! Private events are subject to availability and may not be offered at peak times. Our taproom has capacity for up to 75 guests for your event. Contact [email protected] for details. Be sure to include the date and time of your event and anticipated number of people in your party.

Can you make a custom beer for my establishment?

You bet! Details on our Brew For You program are here.

What about buying your beers to enjoy later?

Bring your own growler for fills of our beers and guest beers (subject to availability). 32 oz Crowlers™ are pre-filled and subject to availability.

Our Story

In 2016, we set out to change the world through beer. Thew Brewing was born. A modern take on an ancient practice, we focus on two things: making great beer and strengthening communities.

As beer has been used to bring people together for ages, it is the perfect vehicle to promote community engagement and improvement. Our beer is scrupulously devised, brewed, and aged, bringing the ultimate drinking experience to our customers. Attention to detail and an unrelenting desire to make the best beer possible separate us from the rest.

The word "thew" is Middle English for strength and vitality. Originally suggested in jest, we quickly realized that the word perfectly described who we are: a company dedicated to infusing strength and vitality into the communities we touch. With consistent involvement with local businesses, charities, non-profits, and outreach programs, we aim to make everywhere we visit a little better than how we found it.

It is with great pleasure that we invite you to enjoy the beer we work so hard to perfect.

Our Mission

Our mission is to create strong, world-class beers and smaller, accessible counterparts that speak to both seasoned beer connoisseurs and casual beer drinkers. We focus on the craft of craft beer, introducing people to new styles and new takes on familiar styles. We believe in being a strong part of the community, by collaborating with local businesses - including other breweries, distilleries, wineries, restaurants, and farms - and by giving back to the community as a whole through volunteering and regular involvement.
